10 things I hate about indie publishing

Just kidding! It's only one: doing my own marketing1.

Oh, and not getting advances, although running a Kickstarter kind of did that, and I liked it a lot. I'm ramping up to run another pretty soon, in fact.

Anyway, in the interest of me fulfilling my obligations to myself and others, here is a bunch of marketing - of good things! that I think you will like! and some worthy causes! And at the end, you'll have a chance to get something great for absolutely free–if you're fast enough.

Olympus Inc on Sale

I have released the Trojan Women collection on Amazon! This omnibus volume includes all three of the Olympus Inc. Trojan Women novels (Ask Cassandra; Love, Laodice; and XO, Xena) plus the in-universe standalone novella The Love Labyrinth.

To celebrate the release of this collection, and to provide an easy entry point to the series for new readers, I have put the first Olympus Inc. collection on sale!

The Olympians collection is now 3.99 USD, which is $1/book for Persephone in Bloom, Aphrodite Unbound and Hera Takes Charge plus Penelope Pops the Question2. This is frankly ludicrous pricing, and someone should have stopped me.

The Olympians Collection has also been included in a contemporary romance boxsets and collections sale, which you can peruse here.3

Banned books and fighting book bans

FaRo Society fundraising is in full swing! Fantasy romance writers are raising money for PEN America, which fights against book bans and for free expression, all over the world.

You can help their fundraising efforts by buying Romantasy Rebels: An Fantasy Romance Anthology of Standing Up And Pushing Back, with all proceeds going to PEN America.

Amazon actually managed to ban this book raising money to protest book bans. Twice. But it's finally up on all retailers, and is only available until the end of February. For now, Romantasy Rebels is the only place to read my extended novelette version of Mrs Beeton's Book of Magickal Management.

After the fundraiser, I intend to do my usual thing and put an early eARC version on my Patreon before eventual public release. But the OTHER TWENTY-FIVE novelettes and novellas can only be acquired in one click by purchasing this book, and I urge you to do so if you like fantasy, romance, and triumphantly giving bullies the finger with both hands.

BANNED TWICE.

Also coming up: The Books They Can't Burn, an auction to raise money for the same cause! There's a ton of good stuff in there, so have a good peruse.

My auction contribution is a half-hour virtual meet-up, where you can ask me anything about writing/reading/how I get my hair to look this great plus a gifted subscription to my Bonus Content Patreon tier for six months. Bidding starts at $5. Bonus content Patreon is $15/month. The maths is good!

Free thing

(Hands up if you scrolled down here first. Listen, I see you and I don't judge.)

My wonderful friend and games writer Morgan Davie, author of such ttrpg hits as Paranormal Wellington and Kill Your Grandad has released a new game! Tell Me More, Tell Me More is a beautifully illustrated choose-your-own-path game for two, described as "a romantic story game in seven questions".

It's honestly lovely.

And thanks to Morgan's very generous donation, you can have it for zero dollars, if you are one of the first twenty people to click this link.

And that's it! Marketing over, at least for now. Enjoy clicking many links, and have yourself the best week possible,

Love, Karen/Kate.

1 I don't even hate all marketing. Technically, this newsletter is marketing, even though it mostly feels like I'm talking to friends and casual acquaintances who are at least mildly interested in what I've been up to lately. If you want to converse back, please don't reply to these emails, btw. There's a comment link down the bottom, and you're most welcome there, but any emails you send back to this address disappear into a great void.

2 Newsletter readers already have Penelope, of course! But, you know, tell your friends.

3 Click with caution - there are always people who don't follow or read the rules, and I do see a few non-collections there. I don't have any say in the running of this one, so I can't do much about it. But it's definitely a MAJORITY of boxsets, and there are some good looking choices here!
